On Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 2 p.m., an observance will be held of Confederate Memorial Day at the Resaca Confederate Cemetery, Resaca, Ga. The Resaca Cemetery is approximately seven miles north of Calhoun, Ga. on Highway 41 N, turn right on Confederate Cemetery Road.
Sponsored by the General Stand Watie Camp #915, Sons of Confederate Veterans and the Harriet Gold Chapter #2526, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Company G, 28th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Re-enactors, commanded by Captain Mike McHan, will honor the fallen with a musket volley, and Mr. Steve Toney will play “Taps” on the bugle.
Ken Herron, local newspaper columnist and historian, will be the keynote speaker. Music will be provided by the Company G, 28th Georgia Fife & Drums Corps (Dale and Teri Lamb), with Laney House on banjo.
Everyone is welcome. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at Oakleigh in downtown Calhoun, the home of the Gordon County Historical Society.
