City of Calhoun departments have been preparing for the possible effects of Hurricane Irma this week. Preparations have been made department by department to respond to situations that could potentially arise.
Police and Fire Department personnel have made the necessary preparations and stand ready. Our Georgia Search and Rescue (GSAR) unit will be on standby as needed. Our Electric Department has a line crew ready to respond as needed per the City’s mutual aid agreement. Crews have not been dispatched to Florida at this time due to the uncertainty of knowing the extent of damage that could occur in Georgia. Public Works entire crew will be on standby during off hours. All water plant and waste water plant personnel have been re-briefed on their Emergency Response Plan. The City’s fuel reserves have been increased, all departments have been instructed to fuel up any and all emergency vehicles and equipment that may be needed, chain saws, generators, emergency lighting, etc. All loose items have been secured so they would not become dangerous in high winds. All major storm water drainage structures have been checked and cleared of any obstructions.
