A Friday night wreck on Highway 53 in Calhoun resulted in the death of two pedestrians.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, around 7:45 p.m. on Friday, March 9, two pedestrians, identified as Douglas D. Molzahn, 81, and Helen V. Molzahn, 82, both of Egg Harbor, Wis., were traveling south, crossing GA 53 from the area of Applebees. According to the report, the couple was not in a crosswalk and the area is not lighted. The pedestrians failed to yield to a 1994 Ford F150, driven by Durham William Richards, 73, of Calhoun, and were struck with the front of the vehicle.
Multiple first responders and agencies responded to the scene. Douglas D. Molzahn was pronounced dead at the scene, while Helen V. Molzahn was pronounced dead at Gordon Hospital.
According to the GSP, blood alcohol tests are pending for the deceased pedestrians.
No charges are expected to be filed.
