CFD has busy Wednesday evening, continues to investigate cause of auto sale building fire

Firefighters with Calhoun Fire Department responded to a fire and a mysterious odor Wednesday evening.

A fire broke out in a building at David Smith Auto Sales, located at 608 South Wall Street in Calhoun beside Gordon Hills Shopping Center.

Firefighters and first responders were on scene around 6 p.m. on May 10, and were on the scene for at least an hour. As of press time, the CFD are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

Also Wednesday night, CFD responded to a mysterious odor complaint beside Calhoun Motocross, located at 355 Beamer Road in Calhoun. Complaints were made of a heavy ammonia smell in the area, and Calhoun Police blocked an area from Highway 53 Spur downtown Beamer Road. CFD determined that the smell was due to a new process from a nearby manufacturing facility and was not hazardous.
