On the Ga. 53 Spur, Calhoun Police officers held a security checkpoint on Thursday, making sure drivers passing through the area had their licenses, registration, seat belts buckled and were driving distraction-free. Facilitator Christy Nicholson said there were 34 citations written, most of them involving suspended or absent licenses, and four drug warrants were granted as a result of the checkpoint, which lasted about an hour and half. Officers who participated were members of the Mountain Area Traffic Enforcement Network, which includes Whitfield, Catoosa, Dade, Walker, Polk, Murray, Chattooga, Gordon, Bartow and Floyd Counties.
