A Calhoun man involved in a serious automobile accident during the week of Thanksgiving in Pickens County succumbed to his injuries over the weekend.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Tecumseh Bear Murphy, age 18, of Resaca and formerly of Silver City, N.M., was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and pulling a trailer around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23 when he traveled off the right edge of the roadway while traveling west on GA 53 in Pickens County. The truck overturned and struck a tree. According to the GSP, Murphy was not wearing a seatbelt and became entrapped in the vehicle, which required extrication efforts to free Murphy.
Murphy was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, Dec. 3.
It is not clear how long Murphy had lived in Gordon County at the time of the accident. He was a member of the New Mexico National Guard.
