Coming home from war should be one of the happiest days in a veteran’s life.
But the catastrophic injuries many veterans face, that often result in triple and quadruple amputations, can make home a difficult place to navigate. That’s why Calhoun-based Mohawk Industries partners with nonprofits Operation Finally Home and the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation (“Tunnel to Towers”) to help build comfortable and accessible homes for severely wounded veterans, according to the press release.
So far, the company has contributed all of the flooring products for approximately 65 homes across the country and has committed to contributing material for at least 20 more through its partnerships with the nonprofits. Both organizations focus not only on building mortgage-free homes, but also on improving the overall quality and security of life for injured veterans and their families.
“It’s so important to honor our veterans,” Bill Gaddis, Mohawk’s director of national accounts, said in a press release. “We think one of the most important things we can do is support them, and Mohawk’s flooring products provide the perfect foundation for a comfortable, accessible home. They’ve given up so much — their lives and their limbs — the least we can do is give back something to them so that they can rebuild their lives.”
Through the Tunnel to Towers’ Building for America’s Bravestprogram, in proud partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation, the company collaborates with trusted flooring retail leader, Carpet One Flooring & Home. Mohawk provides the flooring materials — includingcarpet, tile, laminate, wood and accessories — and Carpet One provides the installations and other fundraising support. Mohawk has partnered with Operation Finally Home for four years and serves as the organization’s exclusive national flooring provider.
From hiring practices and community outreach to donations like these, Mohawk Industries has a longstanding commitment to empowering and honoring veterans. This spring the company headquarters in Calhoun hosted the Tunnel to Towers’ 9/11 Never Forget Mobile exhibit, the country’s only touring 9/11 memorial, which many of the company’s northwest Georgia veterans were able to tour.
“Mohawk is so proud to employ many men and women who have served in our nation’s military,” said Robert Webb, senior director of public affairs and corporate communication. “They have made tremendous contributions to our country and to our business.”
