Annual Christmas Parade of Lights, first day of downtown ice skating set for Thursday, Dec. 14

This year's Christmas Parade of Lights is set to begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, the same day that downtown's Winter Wonderland ice skating begins.

This year's parade theme is "An Old-Fashioned Calhoun Christmas," and more than 60 schools, businesses and organizations are expected to participate. Local choruses will begin caroling at 6:30 p.m. on Wall Street. The parade is sponsored by Gordon County Chamber and Convention and Visitors Bureau, Downtown Calhoun DDA and Northwest Georgia Regional Fair.

For ice skating, 18 of the sessions over the three-day event have already sold out. Hours are 4 - 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14; 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15 and 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16.

The sponsor of Winter Wonderland, Hamilton Medical Center, will be having giveaways during the event. Country Cabin Sweets has signed on for all three days; Yummy's Funnel Cakes will be on hand Thursday night and the Not So Famous Cookie Company will be available Friday night.
